Chicago, IL (January 2016) - A special feature at GDS 2016 will again be the Highlight Route, this year with the theme “Digital Craft #2”, giving insights into the world of technology 4.0. Digital and virtual solutions as well as smart shop modules and fitting rooms for bricks and mortar retail will be presented along the Highlight Route. New technologies for the point of sale, such as interactive solutions with touchscreens, barcode scanners and tablets, will be showcased. GDS – Global Destination for Shoes & Accessories, will be held from February 10-12, 2016 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany.

SLEM, the international innovation and education institute headquartered in the Netherlands, will offer an overview of future technology trends at GDS 2016 with three “Living Labs”. The first “Lab” will be an interactive Trend Forum for shoes, materials and health technologies of the future. The second “Lab” will be staged by SLEM’s Master of Footwear Innovation students where attendees can get involved in the innovative research work ranging from alternative leather production in biolabs and 3D printing of soles on textiles to other sustainable leather finishing. SLEM is renowned for its international SLEMinars - innovative conferences about the latest insights and technologies for the shoe industry. A top theme at the next SLEMinar on April 19, 2016 will be sustainable shoe materials and wearables. In the third “Lab” visitors will get a preview of this SLEMinar.

The following companies will be presenting their innovations and high-tech solutions at GDS:

Scanblue, world market leader in 3D scanning systems and innovator in the field of virtual reality, will present pioneering E-commerce solutions for the shoe retail sector. They will premiere an App allowing users to scan their feet with their cell phone and see virtually how a shoe fits. Virtual reality will make it possible to “feel” products online and Scanblue will show how consumers can examine everything realistically in 3D - either online, offline or on a cell phone. A4VR considers itself as a pioneer in the field of virtual reality (VR) for companies and brands and specializes in VR concepts and solutions. With the latest VR technology – such as Oculus Rift glasses or Gear VR – A4VR stages immersive brand worlds, 360° tours and entire product lines. Their expertise in the field of VR programming is rounded off by App creation, 360° binaural audio, 360° scanning, face-tracking, VR Mocap and multisensory immersion thereby covering all production-relevant segments. The Ernst Medienwerkstatt will present digital media technology: advertising in its most modern form. Digital screens in all shapes, sizes and colors. A new trend in the sector is the Living Card, the smallest digital encounter packed into just a fold-out card. When unfolded, a screen the size of a matchbox shows visuals (films tec.). Another option is to offer products in a box, offering the matching advertising message for the product on an in-built monitor. Stand 5C54

The Schuhleister uses process standardization to develop custom-fit shoes in tailor-made quality. Fashion shoes with the highest precision fit are designed using the customer’s exact foot size after unique measuring (lasts and individual insoles). A standardized and automated adaptation process is used based on software algorithms. Stand 4A29

I&W, the tech start-up from Munich (Germany), will show the fully modular Smart Display [re:frame] for corporate clients. The smart function at [re:frame] is achieved through multicore processors, WiFi, a full-scale operating system (Linux, Android, Windows) and a high-performing multimedia computer and is therefore not dependent on external content and auxiliary devices. On the monitor interactive video and audio files, photo slide shows and much more can be played and incorporated into over 150 different picture frame styles. [re:frame] hangs freely on steel cables from the ceiling or like a picture on the wall. Stand 5B54

JJ Footwear has developed a fitting concept which can be used for omni-channel solutions in the shoe sector. JJ Footwear offers “a new shopping experience”. The company has developed a new retail concept that can be combined with the “Personal Fit Desk” and the “JJ Footwear App” for on and offline shopping in the shoe business. Stand 3A26

MetraLabs GmbH specializes in the development of serial-production ready, autonomous and mobile robots for the retail sector. The company develops, produces and sells robots that are beneficial due to their autonomous mobility and ability to interact with people. Fields of application here range from quality assurance, handling and logistics to mobile service guides. The service robot Tory can perform a fully automated inventory check in the store. It navigates autonomously around the store and scans RFID tags. The goods found, the recognition rate and the route taken are presented on a monitor at the end. On the basis of the signal strength of the RFID transponder Tory also determines the position of the items and displays them on a map.  Stand 3C23

mifitto will showcase the 3D foot scanner (customer measurement) + 3D tomograph (product measurement): this personal and individual size advice is a multi-channel size guide for shoes. Foot size can either be determined in the store using the mifitto 3D scanner or at home with the mifitto App. To be able to give the perfect size recommendation the company has developed different technologies together with the Fraunhofer IIS. Phizzard develops digital solutions for bricks and mortar clothing and shoe retailers. The combination of touchscreen and barcode scanners for the customer and tablets for the sales staff makes it possible to find the right item in the store. Customers can check on the touchscreen which shoe sizes are available in the store and what other similar shoes might fit better. If customers select an item on the touchscreen, the sales staff receives an automatic message on their tablet to bring the item to the customer. Stand 3A09

POSeidon offers bricks and mortar retail the link between product presence at the store and E-commerce: a solution that optimizes profitability / KPIs of shop floor productivity. POSeidon is cloud-based software that combines all the advantages of bricks and mortar retail with the benefits of online/mobile shopping. When talking to customers, the sales staff has all product and stock related information at hand. The "shopping basket" is transmitted via secure and patent pending "BeamBasket" technology to the customer’s Smartphone. If the customer wants to purchase an item, he/she can do this in the store or take the shopping basket home on their Smartphone. Payment is done without the need to install an App. At the same time, the data on all terminals can be evaluated, making it possible to find out what products customers are looking for often. Sound Experts GmbH is specialized in professional audio business solutions. Sound is one of the most important dimensions when designing a brand universe and usually, staging sound as an element of brand presentation is associated with a lot of organizational and technical work and being time consuming. Complex cabling has to be retrofitted which often decisively impacts the design of the brand presentation. The Sound Experts offer their SONAB System 9, a cable-free sound system based on WiFi that can be integrated into 3-phase lighting tracks. Stand 3E20

Try & Buy Online is a digital solution for presenting collection items on a specially designed monitor and for also bringing the online shopping experience into the store. The Try & Buy monitor shows the desired brand collection. The customer chooses a product and tries it on. The product can be ordered on the tablet and paid for at the POS terminal. The product is then sent by the manufacturer to the customer. Stand 4H23

Voitair from Munich presents the latest fragrance machines and business fragrances for the shoe sector. Specially developed for the sector, business fragrances are 100% pure scent without chemical perfume bases. Fragrances are key emotional stimuli and a fragrance can stimulate customers and even impact their purchasing behavior. Voltair’s customer base includes clients from all sectors like Burberry London, Porsche Design, Ikea, Edeka and Intersport. Stand 3E16
