Chicago, IL (February 9, 2015)  -  The atmosphere was very positive at the recent staging of GDS 2015, Global Destination for Shoes & Accessories and tag it! 2015, The Private Label Show, in Düsseldorf, Germany. A total of 900 brands were on show in the three themed worlds of GDS and an additional 160 exhibitors were represented at tag it!, showcasing their footwear collections for the Autumn/Winter 2015/2016 season. With earlier dates, trade visitors used the opportunity to browse the new collections at an early point in time while exhibitors welcomed the in-depth dialogue with their customers. It was evident that GDS with its new concept (introduced at the July 2014 staging) is well received by the industry as a kick-off event.

Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, President & CEO of Messe Düsseldorf, stated: “The new GDS brings together industry and retail at a point in time where information is most precious. And this is also precisely why the good mood in the halls and the busy networking serve as a benchmark of success to us. And I have received of lot of positive feedback. It is also very encouraging that we registered more visitors this time than at the GDS 2014 summer staging.”

After the successful new concept was introduced at the summer 2014 staging, the GDS team further developed details of the concept. GDS 2015 featured new areas in selected halls, the Highlight Route was made more visible and the innovative Design Trendsetter project was launched.

Regarding the overall results, a representative survey confirmed the positive mood: 92.3% of the trade visitors stated that they were “very pleased” with GDS. The three different themed worlds were even more popular than before: while the HIGHSTREET segment remained the area with the most demand, interest in the POP UP and STUDIO segments strongly increased at the same time. The survey also showed that more retailers attended the February 2015 GDS than last summer.

The surveyed GDS visitors also proved that the need for information and willingness to order at the beginning of the season are not mutually exclusive. Although most of the attendees stated that they primarily traveled to Düsseldorf for information and networking purposes, 60% had either already placed or planned to place orders in the afternoon of the second day at the show.

To Kirstin Deutelmoser, Director GDS und tag it!, this is not a contradiction “After our second event the feedback is definite: our timing is right – at the start of the season customers are open to all things new and manufacturers can present themselves on an international stage. This is exactly what makes GDS so valuable as an information platform. Of course we are also happy to hear about the business activities at our exhibitors’ stands.”

Design Trendsetter Project A Visitor Highlight
For the new Design Trendsetter project, 20 international designers were selected by a jury and presented their designs in the STUDIO World on about 10,700 square feet of exhibit space. The specifically designed stands and the runway show were popular with the attendees and according to a survey, 95 % of the visitors were very satisfied with this new area.

PR Events: Shows, Awards and Craftsmanship
The successful GDS Press Walk included the presentations of selected exhibitors, the GDS runway show and the HDS/L (Federal Association of the German Shoe and Leather Goods Industry) Junior Award. In cooperation with GDS, HDS/L honors a creative young designer every year. The 2015 winner is Tereza Švolíková with her “lenticular shoe”, whose design changes according to the perspective.

More Bloggers Reporting on Shoes
On the last day, GDS opened its doors to fashion bloggers. At the Bloggercafé Shoedition, 150 bloggers shared their thoughts on shoes and accessories.  A highlight was the Blogger Runway Show where five fashion bloggers - headed by new guest blogger Alice M. Huynh - styled the models.

RICHTIG WICHTIG: Hall 7 Open to Consumers
With its key trend area RICHTIG WICHTIG (Really Important), GDS for the first time opened a small part of the exhibition area to consumers on the second day of the trade fair from 12:00 to 8:00 pm. Fashion enthusiasts enjoyed shows and live acts while browsing the vintage market.
