Shoe Rental: Try Before You Buy

One upside to the dismal economy: an increase in national creativity.  Across the country, consumers are taking creative approaches to obtaining fashionable footwear. Some are taking their old favorites to repair shops, rather than shelling out precious greenbacks for new kicks. Others are swapping clothes and accessories with friends, as the Associated Press recently highlighted in an article titled “Squeezed by Economy, Shoppers become Swappers.” Still others are turning to an age-old technique for preserving limited funds: rental. As highlighted in the video at below, Maggie Snow and Shannon Valitzek, sisters hailing from Boise, Idaho, are offering consumers a chance to save both the earth and a few bucks by renting formal shoes out of their store, One Night Stand.

Aside from congratulating the sisters on a clever name for their store, I commend them for their innovation.  Most women wear their formal shoes only one or two times before relegating them to the back of the closet.  If you’re like me, your rhinestone-studded prom pieces are gathering dust, taking up space, and remotely guilting you out for not wearing them more often.  Assuming the shoes are thoroughly sanitized and in good shape, I’d definitely be willing to take a rental pair out for a test drive. I also like the idea of renting shoes as a way to figure out whether a certain pair is comfortable enough for a whole night on the town.  If the rental audition went well, I’d gladly buy a pair.

Still, until a shoe rental store pops up in Portland, I’ll keep shopping Shoefly, which has great deals on formal shoes.  For a piddly $35, for instance, you can have your own pair of the Grace-Kelly-chic Dolce Vita pumps shown at right.

Apple Computer’s iPhone is not the only Apple technology that is gaining traction in business. Apple’s Mac notebooks, desktops and server sales to both small business and enterprise work groups have grown. And more third-party technology that supports the Mac platform is now available too — from servers to storage to virtualization to email.
- Apple Computer has never been known for its strong reseller channel partner program or its efforts to woo the channel with discounts and back-end rebates. But over the years as Apples Mac platform has made inroads into small businesses and workgroups within larger enterprises, the channel has come…

Is Mobile Security an Oxymoron?

eWEEK Labs does its own investigation of the security of mobile apps such as those from Apple’s App Store. Labs found that mobile apps may be broadcasting much more than you know. Indeed, you might say that your smartphone is talking about you.

-
A couple months ago, I pondered the security of mobile
application transmissions when used over insecure networks, specifically over
unencrypted Wi-Fi hot spots. Whereas
a mobile device browser shows the little lock so users know SSL
is being employed to protect certain data, mobile applicati…

What Does Your Website Design Say About You?

Thousands of people struggle to publish a website on the web every day.

Some want to make millions overnight while others want to start a legitimate home based business. Still others want to just find a voice by blogging.

The massive size of the web has made it a playground for the newbies and the experienced alike but with millions of people making up your potential audience, how do you differentiate your website from all the others?

No matter what your purpose is for having a website, you want it to look appealing and welcoming. The visitor needs a reason to stay to read what you have to offer otherwise they are just one more hit in your stats, never to be found again.

One way to get your website published quickly is to use a DIY web page builder or templates. Choose a design, add your copy, and hit the publish button.

You’re officially a webmaster!

But if you do not have an eye for design your page layout might confuse your reader about where they should look first. Or the graphics included in the templates might look unprofessional and not really convey your message to your readers very well.

Confusing a reader should not ever be part of your plan and if you are online to make money, customers need to be assured of your professionalism prior to buying from you. Using a below standard web page builder might just turn away people instead of bringing them closer to making a sale.

I always recommend using Xsitepro web design software to all my coaching students and others who are new to the online world. This one program has helped me grow my business immensely and has certainly paid for itself multiple times over during the years.

This is the king of DIY web builders. Every design and copy element on the page is within your control but the developers have already paid professional web designers to create the hundreds of templates available to use.

The actual layouts are very professional and pleasing to the eye, which will help navigate your reader through your site while also establishing you as an expert in your market.

Xsite Pro is a one-time investment but now business owners are not stuck using a sub par program getting sub par results. Xsite Pro gives you the professional website that you want – and need – to be successful online.

Is it time to take a review of your own website? What does it say about you?

From Facebook to Twitter, Tips for Dealing with Phishers

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

[Source: eWeek - RSS Feeds]

Phishers using Twitter and Facebook is nothing new, but the security community expects it is only a matter of time before social networks are used as a launch pad for phishing attacks against enterprises. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when talking to your employees about phishing.

- Two of the Webs most popular social networks, Facebook and Twitter, made the news last week when they were hit with phishing scams. Despite the publicity, most phishers targeting enterprise data are not hooking victims via social networks at least not yet. “We’ve yet to respond to an incident w…”
