EXCITING NEW LABELS AT GDS 2012

 

 

   With the motto "Inspiration to Go”, GDS 2012 – International Event for Shoes & Accessories, will be held from September 5 – 7, 2012 at the fairgrounds in Düsseldorf, Germany. Over 800 exhibitors from more than 30 countries will present their shoe fashion for the Spring/Summer 2013 season within the eleven "theme worlds” – supported by catwalk shows, lectures and seminars. "Our concept is entirely tailored to our visitors’ needs. With its different lifestyle worlds it ensures easy orientation. At the same time we are creating a setting that leaves a lot of room for inspiration,” stated Kirstin Deutelmoser, Project Director of GDS.

 

Exciting New Labels

   The trade visitors can expect numerous new labels on show – in the Premium area and the up-and-coming street and sportswear segment as well as in the kids’ shoe section. The Premium area will feature French designers Francois Najar with his court shoe collection and Yves Desfarge with his women’s shoe line debut "chic, eco and fair”. The concept area "white cubes” will include new high-fashion labels such as the U.S. made Walk-over as well as Moods of Norway. This Norwegian label was established by Stefan Dahlquist, Peder Børresen and Simen Staalnacke as a fashion brand in 2003 with the goal to raise worldwide awareness for styling and trends "Made in Norway”. At GDS 2012, Moods of Norway will showcase its latest men’s shoe and bag collections. Also featured will be the U.S. label Kork-Ease. Their cork wedge-heeled sandals are characterized by soft, exquisite leather and lightweight cork. Over the years, Kork-Ease extended its product portfolio to include clogs and boots while always retaining its high-quality materials and natural, organic design. U.S. label Coach & Rachel Zoe will use the upcoming GDS to display the latest designs of this famous stylist who now also designs footwear and fashion. Rachel Zoe became renowned through her work for Hollywood stars such as Kate Beckinsale, Demi Moore and Cameron Diaz. Brands returning among the 200 progressive fashion labels at "white cubes” will also include Diesel and Calvin Klein.

 

   Again on show in the Premium segment of GDS will be the "British Edition” in cooperation with the British Footwear Association (B.F.A.).  Design "Made in the UK” will be represented here by labels such as Base London, Cocorose, Fury Sweden and Jean-Michel Cazabat as well as Julian Hakes, Luxury Rebel, Red by Wolves and - for the first time - John White and Miista.

 

   The "Urban worlds” of GDS will again be all about street and sportswear. They will include the premiere of the Calvin Klein Jeans label as well as of the Israeli designer label Coupleof, whose shoes are typified by an unconventional form, complex craftsmanship and an interplay of proportions and asymmetries. In addition to Selected, the Bestseller Group will present the brand Jack & Jones for the first time.

 

Trend Theme Sustainability

   More and more brands focus on ecologically manufactured fashion, thereby responding to the growing demands from shoppers. According to a study by the German Federal Environment Agency, two out of three shoppers purchase products made with the least environmental impact. Equally high is the number of GDS exhibitors who are committed to this topic, including El Naturalista, Ecogreen, Sioux (Green Grashopper), GrandStep and Boombuz. The label Snipe will organize a special event at the next GDS to present the first compostable leather shoe manufactured in traditional style.  

 

Design Attack becomes the Harbor Town "Aqua Marina”

   The special "Design Attack” exhibit at GDS will present 100 young designers with their unique collections. This time, this exhibit area will be transformed into the forgotten harbor town "Aqua Marina” with an old light house surrounded by weather-beaten small streets, a harbor pub and a stranded sailing ship.                  

 

Informative Supporting Events

   The extensive ancillary events program at GDS 2012 will include catwalk shows in Hall 2 while the Speakers’ Corner in Hall 7.0 will feature trend lectures, workshops and panel discussions. Topics covered will include future developments in the fashion industry as well as new colors, shapes and materials for shoes and bags. Modeurop will discuss trends for Autumn/Winter 2013/2014 while the seminar of the trade magazine Textilwirtschaft will deal with buyer criteria for 2013 summer purchases. Other topics in the "Speakers’ Corner” will include "geomarketing” and "local mobile marketing”.

 

"Made in Italy” as a Stand-Alone Show

   Shoes "Made in Italy” have been part of at GDS for 35 years. In September 1977, shoe manufacturers from the region between Padua and Venice took part in this trade show for the first time. To mark this 35th anniversary, the "Consorzio Maestri Calzaturieri del Brenta” will stage a special fashion show during GDS 2012 and present Italian fashion innovations.  

 

GLOBAL SHOES 2012

   GLOBAL SHOES 2012 – leading trade show for sourcing, will be held concurrently with GDS. With the motto "shoe fashion all along the line", this platform for volume suppliers will present a wide and varied selection of shoe and leather goods ranges for the volume market. More than 350 exhibitors from all major shoe-producing countries are expected to participate.
