GDS PRESENTS 2016/2017 AUTUMN/WINTER TRENDS

Chicago, IL (January 2016) - From February 10 - 12, 2016 the international shoe sector will meet in Düsseldorf, Germany for the 121st GDS – Global Destination for Shoes & Accessories. About 800 brands will present their collections for the 2016/17 Autumn/Winter season. For most brands this is the first date in the season to showcase their entire collections. Held concurrently, the private labeling fair tag it! – The Private Label Show, will feature 100 exhibitors.
800 Brands like Timberland and Vero Moda use GDS for the Season Kick-off
Early in the season and close to the fashion ordering season – GDS provides the ideal platform for shoe and clothing retailers looking for new inspirations. Werner Matthias Dornscheidt, President and CEO of Messe Düsseldorf, underlines the importance of GDS as an information show: “Despite the difficult climate we have once again managed to provide a comprehensive overview of the shoe sector. We hope that as many retailers as possible will use this opportunity to exchange ideas with their suppliers and also discover exciting new collections.”
The line-up of exhibitors includes renowned brands such as GDS newcomers Timberland, Vero Moda, Roy Robson and Kenneth Cole. Returning firms include G-Star, Lottusse and Groupe Royer with the Kickers brand (featured in the children’s segment and in POP UP). “Participants like Timberland highlight the international flair of GDS and underline its importance in the sector. Furthermore, firms returning to GDS also confirm the validity of our concept,” stated Kirstin Deutelmoser, Director of GDS & tag it!
The STUDIO world at GDS 2016 will feature Alberto Premi sneakers, hand-made in Italy and styles by Oliver Sweeny – the brand using its own tattoo artist to customize products according to their customers’ specifications. Attendees looking for individual sneakers and bags will find them at Esseutesse and fans of Italian skilled craftsmanship should not miss Peter Sorensen. Also new at the trade fair will be Philipp Lacquer collection whose bags were made famous by Heidi Klum. Designer collections from Portuguese Young Talents will also be part of this GDS segment. Marla Pais and Shoes your Mood will showcase their collections at GDS for the first time.
At POP UP, retailers will also discover exciting new collections: established brands such as G-Star and Kickers, new on the market Newfs and Obrigada as well as Ten Points and Veja with focus on sustainability. The new Lounge Area and the POP UP Market will be staged as a bumper car arena presenting exhibitors which are particularly interesting for concept stores: barber accessories from Gold’s, cufflinks from Bewooden and watches and eyewear from Kerbholz.
HIGHSTREET, the largest theme world at GDS, will also include new exhibitors. Trade visitors can get a broad overview of international suppliers in a short time. They can view collections from Corrente (Turkey), Democrata (Brazil), DWRS (Netherlands), Jack Morgan (Portugal), Lyle and Scott (Great Britain), Onfoot (Spain), Rocky 4EurSole (U.S.) as well as accessories from Caridei Glove Factory (Italy) and luggage from Olivia Lauren (Belgium).
In the Kids Area newcomers will include Move by Melton, EMU Australia Kids, Bergstein, Shwik and Shoo Pom.
Fashion Shows and Trends inspire Retailers
The GDS fashion shows and the shows of the individual brands will inform retailers about the key trends of the season. “Maximal Minimal” will be the theme of the Studio Show on the first day with VIP guest Ruth Moschner (German TV presenter).
GDS 2016 will combine the most important clothing trends with must-haves in the shoe sector: while GDS Trend Spots will presents the four most important trend themes, GDS Trend Codes will, for the first time, provide specific outfit ideas in Hall 4, showing retailers which outfits “go together” .
Highlight Route presents “Digital Craft #2”
The new opportunities offered to bricks and mortar retail by digital solutions and smart shop modules will be presented on the GDS Highlight Route. New technologies will be presented for the point of sale such as interactive touchscreen, barcode scanner and tablet solutions. GDS visitors can try out the virtual reality glasses Oculus Rift and find out about their application options. Other technical innovations will include a folding card with a screen the size a matchbox playing videos or special fragrance machines for use at the point of sale. New technical advances making it easier to find the right shoe size will be presented for the first time at GDS. Visitors can see a real 3D foot scanner at work or enjoy the premiere of a Smartphone App that allows customers to scan their feet in order to find the right shoe size for every shoe style. In addition, the international innovation and education institute SLEM (from the Netherlands) will inform about the technology and trends of the future.
Event: Shoe Sector meets at “Winter Breeze”
On the first evening of the show, industry and trade will get together at “Quartier Bohème” in the Düsseldorf city center for a relaxed evening in a winter setting.
Together with styleranking, GDS will again host the FashionBloggerCafé shoedition (Hall 10). This time the sisters Sylvia and Julia Haghjoo will be the testimonial bloggers, selecting and rating the latest shoe and accessory trends and sharing the most important “it-pieces” with their followers. In the Blogger Runway Show, the testimonial bloggers - along with four other bloggers - will present the unique looks.
